More Than Ourselves

Listening to Snow by Red Hot Chilli Peppers,

“But I need more than myself this time”

Yes, yes, yes…

We aren’t meant to do this alone, we aren’t meant to go through life alone, and we aren’t alone- there’s 7 billion of us, milling about, minding our own business. Which is a problem. We mind our own business far too much, our ability to reach out to others is diminishing. And with that, our ability to reach out to ourselves.

Wake up readers, Facebook isn’t enough. Twitter most certainly isn’t enough. We post all our statuses and articles for the world to see, trying to create some type of dialogue regarding our own lives, we’re hungry for the input of others, to heard and seen and valued, but we’re feeding ourselves with watered down forms of communication.

There’s enough problems in this world that aren’t being solved because the voices of various groups are being suppressed and ignored, so those of us who are privileged enough to be heard have to make sure we are constantly improving our ability to speak, articulate ideas, and affect others through our words and actions. We have to stand up for each other, or there won’t be any ‘each other’ left.
